Role Overview
β¦ Strengths
- βΊHigh autonomy β you largely control your own lane outcome
- βΊStrong split-push pressure forces enemy resources toward you
- βΊTanky tanks and bruisers provide reliable frontlines in late-game teamfights
β¦ Challenges
- βΊTop is the furthest island from dragon β it can feel low-impact in some games
- βΊGetting camped by the jungler early can snowball into an unwinnable laning phase
Fundamentals
Start HereFocus on last-hitting minions consistently β aim for 6β7 CS per minute
Don't fight champions with significantly more HP than you β respect power spikes
Use the teleport summoner spell to join bot lane teamfights and impact the map
When unsure, push your wave and rotate toward the nearest objective
Player Problems
Coaching AuditThe most common mistakes Top players make below Diamond β and exactly how to fix them.
Symptom: "You're 0/3 in lane and can't join a single teamfight all game."
Diagnosis
Aggressive trades when behind β fighting champions who have more HP, items, or cooldowns available.
The Fix
After your second death, commit to farming under tower. The gold lost from trading is worse than the farm you miss. Re-enter the game at your next item spike or when a teleport opportunity appears near an objective.
Symptom: "Your TP goes mid to help a 0/4 teammate when baron is spawning."
Diagnosis
TP is being used reactively β you're following pings instead of reading the macro situation.
The Fix
Before hitting TP, ask: is there an objective within 30 seconds of this fight? Dragon and baron TPs win games. Saving a losing lane with TP rarely does. Mark objective timers on your minimap to build the habit.
Symptom: "The enemy jungler visits your lane every 90 seconds and you can't stop it."
Diagnosis
No wards in the river or tri-bush, and you're extended past halfway in lane.
The Fix
When camped, identify it as free pressure elsewhere. Play under tower, call the camp for your jungler, and farm safely. Your jungler should be winning bot side while you hold. One lost lane doesn't lose the game β two does.
Symptom: "You're pushing top turret when your team is fighting baron 1v4."
Diagnosis
Splitpushing without reading the map β no awareness of where your team is or what objective is at stake.
The Fix
Splitpush is a threat, not a commitment. Push when your team has vision control and objectives aren't spawning. At baron/elder, always be on your team. An uncontested baron is never worth a solo turret.
Ranked Playbook
ClimbingLearn your champion's power spikes β some tops are strong at level 6, others at 3 items
Split-push creates 1v1 or 2v2 scenarios that isolate your stronger duelling potential
Crash waves and back before the enemy jungler can arrive to gank
Track the enemy jungler using trinket and minimap β top is frequently camped in solo queue

FAQ
Split-push to force the enemy team to respond, then rejoin when numbers are even. A strong split-push draws multiple enemies, creating opportunities for your team.
Aim for 6.5 CS/min or higher. That's roughly 65 CS in 10 minutes, 130 in 20 minutes. Consistent farming beats risky fights for climbing.
Teleport when your team is fighting a winnable fight around an objective (dragon, baron, or turret), or when you've pushed your wave and want to rejoin the team.
