Fundamentals
Start HereFocus on last-hitting and don't auto-attack the wave into enemy territory without vision
Shove your wave before roaming β don't roam with a losing wave state
Buy Control Wards every back and place them in the river or near dragon/baron
Your ult usually decides whether you win or lose a skirmish β use it carefully
Player Problems
Coaching AuditThe most common mistakes Mid players make below Diamond β and exactly how to fix them.
Symptom: "You roam bot, get a kill, come back to 40 CS lost in your lane."
Diagnosis
Roaming with a losing wave state β the wave is either slow-pushing toward you or already at your tower.
The Fix
Before every roam: look at the wave. If it's even or pushing toward you, don't roam. Fast-push the wave to the enemy turret first β they lose CS while you travel. A successful roam with a good wave state costs you 0 gold.
Symptom: "Zed appears from fog, you flash, die anyway. Repeat every game."
Diagnosis
Overextending in lane and standing at a predictable position without escape paths identified.
The Fix
Against assassins, keep your support item and stand behind minions. Never stand in line-of-sight from the river. When the enemy jungler is unseen, play as if Zed has a free pass to walk into your lane β because he does.
Symptom: "You finished a fight. Everyone backs. You stood there. Wave bounced twice."
Diagnosis
Mid-game attention collapses β spending too long on the minimap after fights instead of rotating to farm.
The Fix
After every teamfight: identify the nearest empty sidelane. Rotate there immediately. Five waves uncontested is 200 gold and an item delay advantage. Most mid-laners below Platinum fail to take a single sidelane wave between objectives.
Symptom: "You're 4/0 at 15 minutes. Baron spawns at 20. You've done nothing with the lead."
Diagnosis
Winning lane without converting β kills aren't turning into objective setups or turret plates.
The Fix
A lead means zone control, not just stats. After getting ahead: push the wave, shove the enemy laner, then use the time you bought to force vision in the river or collapse onto an objective. Kills only matter if they translate to turrets or objectives.
Ranked Playbook
ClimbingWave management: freeze when losing, bounce when winning to set up ganks
Roam bot after a shove to influence dragon β mid-bot synergy wins early game
Track the enemy mid laner's position β if they've roamed, push and rotate or call MIA
CS baseline for mid is 7/min β 70 CS at 10 minutes is the target
Champion Picks
Ahri
Forgiving, mobile, and high kill potential
Lux
Safe poke mage with great damage and low skill floor
FAQ
Practice last-hitting in Practice Mode until you can hit 7+ CS/min against only minions. Then apply it in games by avoiding unnecessary trades that cost you CS timing.
Roam when your wave is pushed near the enemy turret (so they lose CS), your lane opponent is recalled, or after winning a fight and you have priority. Never roam with a losing wave.
Play safe, farm well, push your wave efficiently, and roam toward the leading team. Avoiding feeding matters more than individual brilliance in lower elos.
