Fundamentals

Start Here
1

Buy a Stealth Ward trinket and a Control Ward every single back

2

Don't take CS in lane β€” let your ADC farm freely

3

Stand near your ADC in lane and react to engages or peel for poke

4

Your vision score should be 40+ every game β€” place wards proactively

Player Problems

Coaching Audit

The most common mistakes Support players make below Diamond β€” and exactly how to fix them.

Symptom: "Your team is dying to ganks they had no vision to see coming."

Diagnosis

Not buying control wards on backs, and not using trinket on cooldown between fights.

The Fix

Every single recall: buy at least one control ward before anything else. It costs 75 gold. Place it immediately when you return to lane β€” dragon pit, river bush, or the pixel bush. Add a second one on your next two backs. This single habit adds 8–12 vision score per game.

Symptom: "You have Leona, level 6, full HP. The enemy ADC is overextended. You wait."

Diagnosis

Fear of dying stops you from using the kit you picked specifically to engage.

The Fix

If you picked an engage support, your job is to look for windows to start fights. Walk up when the enemy is last-hitting and not looking at you. Use a bush to break vision before engaging. Don't wait for perfect β€” wait for good. Good engage creates good games.

Symptom: "You're playing Lulu but you built Luden's Echo and Shadowflame."

Diagnosis

Playing support like it's a carry role β€” building for personal damage instead of team-scaling stats.

The Fix

Moonstone Renewer, Locket of the Iron Solari, Redemption, Shurelya's Battlesong. These items win teamfights through sustained healing, shielding and speed. One Redemption active in a teamfight heals 10% of your entire team's HP. No damage item does that.

Symptom: "You roam mid without pushing the wave first. Your ADC dies 2v1."

Diagnosis

Roaming at the wrong time β€” leaving lane when the wave is losing or the ADC is in a vulnerable position.

The Fix

Before every roam: check wave state (should be pushed), check ADC HP and position (should be safe), check mid lane (enemy should be pushed in or have no vision to follow). A roam gone wrong costs your ADC their entire lane. Coordinate with a ping before leaving.

FAQ

Buy 2 control wards every back. Place them in dragon/baron pit, river bushes, or the enemy jungle entrances. Use your ward trinket on cooldown. A good support should hit 45+ vision score per game.

Roam when your ADC is safe with a pushed wave, when the enemy mid is shoved in and vulnerable, or when your jungler is about to fight around an objective. Ping your ADC before leaving.

Lulu, Soraka, or Janna are the most beginner-friendly β€” simple kits with clear defensive goals. Once comfortable, Thresh and Blitzcrank teach aggressive playmakinge.
